The first Lacona Public Library started March, 1976. It was located on the balcony floor of the Community Center. In 1992 a new building was built that houses the present Library, City Hall, and Fire Station. Maxine Johnson, Ruth Butler, Maureen Thompson, Virginia Dittmer and Ann Daugherty were among those that started the Library for Lacona. There were many more people who donated books and time.
